Natural Health, Issue #033 --Constipation Remedies
September 08, 2013
Hello,

Constipation Remedies

Need some good constipation remedies? You are not alone. My webpage on constipation continues to be one of the top pages on my site. I will be writing an ebook on the causes of and how to alleviate constipation, stay tuned!

About two years ago I gave a conference on Nutrition for Cyclists to the Beaconsfield Cycling club. Afterwards, on a club ride, I was talking to one of the members who had attended my talk. I asked him if he had learned anything new. “Yes,” he replied, “Three poops per day!” During my conference I touched briefly on the digestive system and that the norm was three poops per day.

Most of my clients are surprised by this. They believe the norm to be once per day. But those of you with children know that when they are infants they have one bowel movement for every meal. This is the norm. When you have a bowel movement there shouldn’t be any straining and the poop should be well formed, not hard.

Causes of constipation:

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know by now that my main concern is to figure out the cause, ie why someone is constipated. There are many reasons, here are just a few:

  1. Dehydration
  2. Poor diet
  3. Stress
  4. Medication

Natural Constipation Cures

The first step in constipation remedies is to drink more water. There is no set amount for how much water you need. It depends on how active you are, how hot it is, even if you are talking a lot, you need more water. A general guideline is ½ ounce for every pound of body weight per day.

The second thing is to change your diet. Replace the processed, packaged foods and refined carbohydrates, (foods made with white flour and sugar) with whole foods in their most natural state.

Basically, foods that are high in fiber are foods that grow:

  • Vegetables
  • Fruits
  • Whole grains
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Beans or legumes
  • Dried fruits
Stress causes constipation so it is important to do everything you can to learn how to better manage stress. Many medications contribute to constipation. If you are taking medication, ensure you are following the suggestions above to keep things moving.

Taking laxatives is the worst thing to do for constipation as it makes the digestive system lazy and exasperates the problem.

With my ebook you'll easily be able to determine the exact causes of your constipation and find out how to alleviate it naturally. In the mentime, I hope these tips keep you going like clockwork :)

To your natural health!
