Diet For Ulcers

The diet for ulcers has changed over the years.

We now know a lot more about the causes of ulcers and can more easily find a natural cure for ulcers.

I remember when I was about 12 my mother had a stomach ulcer and she was doubled over in pain. At that time she was told to drink a lot of milk as that was thought to coat the stomach and neutralize acidity. But milk actually increases the production of stomach acid and can increase the occurrence of ulcers. Almond, rice or soy milk are good alternatives.

As for any illness

eating a healthy diet is of the utmost importance!

Stomach ulcers diet

Eat plenty of dark leafy green vegetables as they contain vitamin K which helps in healing and is usually lacking in people with digestive problems.

Avoid all drinks that irritate the stomach:

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Soft drinks
  • Alcohol
  • Milk

Avoid:

  • Spicy foods
  • Vinegar
  • Salt
  • Chocolate
  • Refined carbohydrates and anything containing them. ie. white flour, white pasta, white rice
  • Refined sugar
  • Fried foods
  • Animal fats

Salt and sugar increase stomach acid.

Sip distilled water with a bit of lemon juice added.

Eat frequent small meals.
Many believe that food allergies may be a cause of ulcers so be aware of what foods trigger your symptoms.
Drink a large glass of water to dilute stomach acid.

If symptoms are severe, eat soft foods, avocados, bananas, potatoes, squash, yams. Put steamed vegetables in a blender.

Include cabbage juice daily in your diet plan for ulcers: Note, not for those who have hyperthyroid.

Cabbage juice

Boiled Cabbage Juice:

Boil a cabbage (preferably organic) in 5 to 6 cups of pure water, drink throughout the day. Do not re-heat.

Cabbage Juice in the Juicer:

1/4 to 1/2 head cabbage
1 apple or 2 carrots
1/4 cup pure water

1. Thoroughly wash the vegetables and fruit. Peel the apple and carrots if they are not organic. Cut in pieces to fit into the juicer.

2. Process the fruit and vegetables in the juicer. Add the water and drink immediately. Do not allow to stand so as to not lose its benefits.1

Ensure that you are doing everything you can to help your digestive system.
