Facts About Vitamins

The facts about vitamins that most people don't know is that most of us are deficient in many vitamins and we need to supplements to achieve optimal health.

Vita - amins, comes from the root word "vita," meaning "Life"

Every cell, every tissue, organ in our body needs certain elements to thrive and it is next to impossible to get all our essential vitamins and nutrients from food alone. Do you eat 7 to 10 servings of fresh organic vegetables every single day? Do you get 10 minutes of sunshine every day? Pesticides block the absorption of vitamins and nutrients.

Also important to note in our facts about vitamins is that the older you get the less you absorb the vitamins so the need is greater.

What causes vitamin deficiencies?

  • Stress
  • our soils are depleted of nutrients
  • Pesticides and chemical fertilizers blosk the absorption of vitamins and minerals
  • A poor diet causes the body to be overly acidic and the body leeches vitamins and minerals to try to balance pH
  • Our food travels great distances over long time which reduces the amount of nutrients
  • Cooking reduces the amount of vitamins and minerals
  • Coffee
  • Irradiation
  • Microwaves
  • Calorie reduced diets
  • Medications
  • Illness
  • Free radicals
  • Age
  • Lack of sunshine
  • Excessive sports

About the RDA

RDA is said to stand for Recommended Daily Allowances, but it should stand for Ridiculously Dumb Amounts!

Seriously! These standards were set in the 1920s, to stave off scurvey and the like.

They are set to avoid huge lacks not set to maintain optimal health.

In the 1960s studies began showing that our lack of vitamins was leading to cancer and cardio vascular disease. More and more studies are proving the same.

Of course you do have to stay informed. In the 1990s and 2000 onwards, many doctors were prescribing 2000 milligrams of calcium per day to many women over 50. Even though the body can not absorb more than 500 mg at a time. In 2012 studies confirmed what we as Naturopaths and well informed natural health practitioners had known all along. That this excess cheap form of calcium, calcium carbonate, a chalk like substance was clogging arteries, causing heart attacks and forming calcium deposits in the body.

This is why it is imperative to buy your supplements from a long standing, reputable company with integrity.

Below is a list of a few of the pages with information about different vitamins.
