HOW TO ALLEVIATE
YOUR SEASONAL ALLERGIES

Seasonal Allergies can completely wipe you out. Symptoms are: itchy, red eyes; watery discharge from the nose and eyes; sneezing; fatigue; irritability. Unlike a cold, which is distinguished by a thicker mucus and sometimes a fever, and is usually gone in a week or two, hay fever can last for weeks.

From a naturopath's point of view, a seasonal allergy or hay fever is a sign that there is an imbalance in the wood element in Chinese Medicine. The liver and gall bladder are weakened so they are producing an insufficient amount of natural anti-histamines. This in turn causes the immune system to overreact to the allergens, thus increasing symptoms. There are many natural remedies that can help.

A naturopath can help to check how well your liver, gall bladder and intestines are functioning. It is very important to alleviate constipation. and ensure everything is moving well through the digestive system. Digestive enzymes can help.

Vitamins and supplements:

Vitamin C with bioflavonoids supports the adrenal glands that produce natural antihistamines.
Complex B helps support the immune system and the nervous system.
Oregon grape extract protects the liver and helps the body rid itself of toxins.
Chinese herbal combinations

Antihistamines may alleviate symptoms but they can cause drowsiness, depression and other side effects. Steroid drugs are also prescribed and these suppress the immune system.

It is possible to control and even eliminate your hay fever and allergies if you are willing to make changes to your diet, lifestyle and perhaps on the emotional side as well. Supplements can help support your body to heal.
